Italian Cup Final Roundup: Siena Still Far From Being Beaten in Domestic Action

By Giovanni Reale

Mens Sana Siena demonstrated its power in all its ways winning their fourth straight Italian National Cup, cruising through Bennet Cantù, 88-71. Simone Pianigiani won his 14th final (with no losses) with an Italian title up for grabs. On the other side Cantù has lost a title game to Siena for the fourth time in a row (two national cups, one LegaBasket Finals and a super national cup) maybe when it was thinking to be as near as ever to compete with Montepaschi.

David Andersen dominated from the beginning (18 points on 7-10 from the field at the half), being an unsolvable enigma for Cantu’s centers. He was eventually named the Cup's MVP. Ksistof Lavrinovic was impossible to contain too. Not only Siena was also effecient from beyond the arc (7-12 in the first three quarters), it's offensive balance neutralized Cantù’s good job on Bo McCalebb (four points and four turnovers in the first half).

In the second half Cantù didn’t react as expected and the game kept going on the same pattern. One more time, it’s Siena that celebrates.
